Let me ask you a question? Who is responsible for marketing your agency? Is it the agent themselves, out there making contacts in the community, or is it the principal, who should be driving leads to the office and making the phone ring?
Today I am going to share with you the reasons why the balance between marketing the agency and personal marketing is so important.
See there are two things that happen here. The principal thinks, well why aren’t my team making sales for me? I pay them and they should be out there finding the leads – I shouldn’t have to hand deliver them for them.
The agent thinks, well why isn’t my principal marketing the office so that the phone rings to help bring in the sales. I don’t want to have to work flat out to make a lead – why can’t they just make the phone ring?
And it’s tough, because if it’s not done right, office marketing can cause negative responses in the community, which the salespeople have to deal with. Then when they call on local people it can be tough to build rapport.
But again if an agent is marketing themselves flat out and the community is hearing nothing from the agency, does this instil confidence in the agency? It depends…
So what we really want is a balance. A balance of responsibility between the office and personal marketing. After all the goal is the same for both parties – so it’s a matter of using a system that works for both.
A system that takes into account the viewpoints of both the agents and the leaders. I have been both throughout my career and can see it from both sides.
This system that can bring in between 20 – 30 phone in enquiries per month – set and forget. On Thursday I am going to share an interview with Neil Wilson who uses my marketing tools to get the phone to ring on average 20 times per month. Look out for it in your inbox.
Overall it doesn’t matter how the phone rings, it just matters that it does.
I share this system with you in my Success in Real Estate course which is coming up in July. Just register by clicking the link above.

I believe that is both parties duty why should it be just the principles job if you believe in yourself wouldn’t you also invest in yourself.
Yeah I agree Wayne – I think a balance of both is what we should aim for. When I had my agency my team used to get 50% of their listings from office leads and they were responsible to bring in the other 50% – it worked beautifully. Thanks for your comment. — Michael
It’s a team effort Michael, it has to be! The office must market itself in the community and the agents must market themselves as part of the office. Team Work makes everyone’s job easier!
Great way of putting it Belinda – agree 100%
