Today I want to talk about the most important thing you can do in any type of real estate market. That word is “focus” because what you focus on grows.
What do you need more of? You always need more good listings to make more sales and earn more money.
The salespeople who don’t focus on a listings number every month will never achieve what they are capable of.
If you truly knew what you were capable of achieving you would astound yourself.
The salespeople who get this right have a focus number every month and they do whatever it takes to achieve this number. They make sales and earn more money than they ever thought possible.
My coaching program is almost at full capacity but a guy I really like – Murray was persistent, and so I let him in.
He’s been with me for 3 weeks and has gone from getting four listings per month to now being on target to get 12 listings this month, just by changing and getting serious about focusing on productive, right actions.
My prediction is that he will average 12 listings and 8 sales per month over the next 12 months.
He said to me that he loves the clear direction and daily accountability he receives in my coaching program and since we started working together his results have improved dramatically; he has never felt more motivated.
This is what focus and accountability have done for Murray and this can happen for you too by putting these three things in place.
1. Be enthusiastic and focus on what you want with a positive mental attitude.
Do not focus on what you don’t want. Focus your mind on seeing your sold signs everywhere.
2. Stretch yourself.
Focus on getting 12 listings per month. You may think that’s a big ask from what you are achieving now, but all you have to do is increase your comfortable base by 2 listings per month.
If that base is 4 listings per month then increase that by two listings per month for the next four months and you will be getting 12 listings per month.
You will achieve great things by breaking it down into small, achievable steps.
3. Have a Growth Mindset.
Carol S. Dweck says in her great book “Mindset” that we have a choice, we can have a limiting mindset or a growth mindset.
A person with a limiting mindset spends time proving why things are not possible, whereas a person with a growth mindset always looks at their great and exciting future and always asks – how?
How is Murray doing what he is doing? He is focused on the right actions with a growth can-do mindset.
Many years ago my wife Tina and I climbed St Mary’s Peak in Wilpena Pound and I remember on the way up there were arrows to guide us on the right path.
If it wasn’t for these arrows we would have become lost in the bush. When we reached the top, an amazing thing happened.
We could see clearly in all directions – and the right path was clear.
The same thing happens in your real estate career. Unless you follow a clear path you will get lost and never reach the top.
But following the right path and focusing on what you want, makes certain that you will reach the top and the view is fantastic.
