The 3 tips for laser like focus for real estate agents

Today I am going to share with you three tips on how to maintain laser like focus on your wonderful career in real estate. If we get this wrong it’s like being cross-eyed and very little is achieved. There is an old Chinese proverb that says “The man who chases two rabbits, catches neither” and that is what happens when you don’t stay focused on your great career in real estate. So here are three things to help you stay focused

1. Concentrate

Have you ever tried to interrupt somebody that is playing a computer game when they are about to finish a level? You can’t interrupt them. They just won’t acknowledge you.

Imagine having that same concentration when it came to prospecting, when it came to listing appointments, when it came to price reductions, when it came to sellers and when it came to getting referrals. Do you think you might be able to take your real estate career to another level? I am sure you can if you concentrate.

I was given an ultimatum one day by an vendor.  He said you sell my house today or else I am going with another agent. So I found the buyer, I concentrated on finding a buyer for that listing because I didn’t want to lose it, I didn’t want him to go to another agent.

The vendor was a Victorian dairy farmer and he used to get up at 2am. So I worked until 2am. I rang him at 2am and told him that I had a contract on his property and that I was faxing it over right away. He signed it and faxed it back. At about 2:30am I left for home with the sale in tow because I concentrated.

You can move mountains through concentration

So if you want your real estate career to go to the next level, concentrate like crazy on the important things in real estate. And there are 5 important things: prospecting, marketing, listing, reducing, and selling.

2. Have “block out” time

Distractions make us lose focus. Some of the biggest distractions are email, SMS, social media, phones, general gossip.

Lock yourself away for at least 3 hours a day without distractions so you can focus on productive things like prospecting, listing, reducing and selling.

3. Give undivided attention

One of the greatest things lacking in society today is attention.  People just don’t listen in this noisy world of distractions. When you are talking to a potential seller while prospecting, give them your full attention. When you are at a listing appointment with a potential seller, give them your full attention.  When you are with a buyer, give them your full attention.

By applying laser like focus on giving all people your full attention it shows your care about them and their needs. And when they understand that you care about them and their needs they will do business with you. Stay focused and thrive.
