Today I want to share with you 3 tips on how to overcome procrastination. If you are like almost everyone in the real estate world, there comes a time in your life where you procrastinate.
When you procrastinate it’s like trying to drive your car with the hand-brake on. There is lots of noise, lots of screeching and lots of smoke, but the car goes nowhere. The same thing happens in your real estate career.
So if you get over procrastination and learn how to eliminate it from your life it’s like driving a V8 super car – you take off at speeds you’ve never experienced before.
So apply these three steps and you will never procrastinate again.
1. Do it now.
Let this be your mantra from now on. “I will do it now.” When you have a tough call to make, do it now. When you think about prospecting, do it now.
On the first day I was told to go prospecting. I drove around and around and I couldn’t find a door that I thought was good enough to knock on. I got no results that day.
The second day I resolved to change this. At the first door I knocked on the people were friendly. I spoke to between 50-70 people that day and found two listings. I’ve been hooked on prospecting ever since. Just do it. Do it now. When you need to have a tough conversation with the buyer or seller, do it now.
2. Act swiftly.
Every action starts with a thought. Often people think of a great idea, and take forever to act. But if we get this right and act on our thoughts with speed and efficiency our career takes off.
When you think about prospecting, act swiftly on the thought because there is somebody in your area right now who is thinking about hiring an agent and let that person be you, who finds them by knocking on their door first.
When you think about a vendor who needs a price reduction, act swiftly. Call the vendor, go and see them, get the price reduction and get them happily moved. In doing so you will attract 10 other sellers into your life from a happy vendor and a happy buyer. When you think about following up a buyer, act swiftly. Make the call.
By acting swiftly you create momentum, which destroys procrastination.
3. Obstacles are opportunities.
Most people procrastinate when they come up against an obstacle and can’t see a way around it. When you come up against an obstacle, realise that the great opportunity lies on the other side of that obstacle. So find the way around it, over it, under it, through it, just find a way.
I read a book on Alexander the Great who had so many obstacles to overcome, but despite this he became the greatest general of all time. You can become the greatest real estate salesperson of all time by overcoming your obstacles and getting to the great opportunities that lie on the other side.
Act boldly and unforeseen forces will come to your aid.
